Minar-e-Jam. Ghor Province: June 2003
A boy uses a pulley system to cross the Hari Rud River beside the Minar-e-Jam (Minaret of Jam). It is the second tallest brick tower in the world after Qutub Minar in New Delhi, itself inspired by the Minaret of Jam.Ancient monuments of this type mostly escaped war damage, deterioration from neglect and inexperienced renovations. Plundering of archaeological sites was and remains a disaster.
